Seeds and Propagation Calculators

Plan seed, tray, cutting, and transplant quantities across distinct propagation stages.

Name the success stage you are counting

Germinated seeds, emerged seedlings, usable transplants, and established plants are not interchangeable outcomes. Pick the calculator that ends at the stage relevant to your production decision.

Use test results from the same seed lot when available. Age, storage, temperature, moisture, treatment, and handling can change performance between lots.

Seed and propagation calculators

Seed Germination RateCalculate germination percentage from a seed test.Viable Seed CountEstimate viable seeds from inventory and germination fraction.Seed Starting Lead TimeBack-calculate a seed-starting day from transplant timing.Transplant Hardening StartFind when to begin hardening before transplanting.Cold Stratification EndAdd a required cold period to a stratification start day.Seed Emergence CompletionEstimate emergence timing from sowing day and expected duration.Seedling SurvivalMeasure transplant survival from planted and established counts.Plug Tray OccupancyCalculate the share of plug-tray cells containing usable seedlings.Plug Tray RequirementAllow for unusable cells when planning plug production.Pot Up Container CountPlan containers with an allowance for pot-up losses.Seed Packet Plant CountEstimate established plants from packet count and combined losses.Seed Weight to CountConvert seed weight to estimated seed count.Seeds per GramCalculate seeds per gram from a counted sample.Seed Sowing DepthEstimate sowing depth as a multiple of seed diameter.Cutting Propagation SuccessMeasure propagation success from rooted and started cuttings.Rooting Hormone DilutionCalculate concentrate for a specified rooting-hormone dilution.Propagation Misting TotalTotal scheduled mist duration across propagation events.Succession Seed BatchDivide seed inventory across succession sowings.Direct Sowing Seed RequirementAdjust direct-sowing quantity for field establishment rate.Transplant Production BufferCalculate seedling production needed for a transplant target.Nursery Bench CapacityEstimate tray capacity from usable nursery bench area.Pot Spacing CapacityEstimate container capacity at a selected spacing footprint.Seed Inventory RemainingTrack seed inventory remaining after sowing.Seed Storage ViabilityEstimate viability after an assumed proportional storage loss.Propagation Loss AllowancePlan starting material from a measured propagation success rate.

Allow for real propagation losses

Tray capacity is geometric, while usable plant count is biological and operational. Empty cells, culls, reserve plants, and transplant loss should be recorded at the stage where each occurs.

Compare the planned quantity with the actual outcome. A dated germination or rooting record provides a stronger basis for the next sowing than a generic success rate.
